Don't stay past dark in the Ghost Town of Bodie. Tourists have reported seeing the ghost of Evelyn Byers, a little girl who was killed by a pick axe over a hundred years ago. The tombstones of the twelve witnesses are missing and something is definitely up. Pick up the investigation and solve this hundred year old mystery once and for all. Over 30 locations and 13 haunted houses...and oh! Did we mention the ghosts?
Not Worth Eye-Strain To FinishReviewed by Katherine Berry, 2010-02-13
I literally couldn't wait to be done with this game due to the
horrible graphics and quite possibly the stingiest hint-system I've
seen on a HOG. Unfortunately, because the game resolution is so
poor and many items are in black or dark gray, even though they
wouldn't be in real life, you actually NEED the hint system in some
of the more dimly-lit rooms... which is about 65% of the
game.
Assuming you actually find the items -- including mis-labeled ones
such as the dressmaker's dummy which the game creators inaccurately
call a mannequin -- you'll face puzzles at the end of each level.
One type of puzzle involves putting together pieces of a tombstone
then hunting around for barely visible objects "scratched" onto the
tombstone. The other type involves finding 7-15 differences between
two sets of photos, with the differences at times being as small as
an itty bitty button on a coat, also made difficult to see due to
the cruddy graphics. But guess what? You get NO hints for those,
and NO you can't bypass them. Fun, huh?
Oh, and just for the fun of it, the game has a deadline involved...
or so you're told when you're given a pocket watch by a ghost.
Except, know what? Even though you have to listen to the
tick-tock-tick-tock and get repeatedly warned to hurry up, it
doesn't matter because the deadline is a sham. That's a good thing
because, unless you've got a killer monitor and very, very good
eyesight, this game will take quite a long time to finish... not
because you're spending the time hunting for an assortment of
items, but because the graphics are so horribly done that you can't
see what you're hunting for.
Save your money. Play something else. I know *I* will never, EVER
play any game by Gaming Hungama again.
It Has So Much Potential!Reviewed by Spoiledbrat, 2010-01-19
This could have been a great game. I love the spookiness about this game and the sound effects are pretty creepy. The only real issue I had were the graphics. I love "hidden items" games, but this game was so frustrating. The graphics are blurry and the items are so difficult to distinguish. The colors of so many items are so similar, they're easy too miss. Quite a few times I'd have to click on a hint, and still wasn't able to find the item! I would end up just blindly clicking away until I hit on something. I really wanted to like this game, but the frustration over the graphics was just too much for me to take.
Could Have Been Really GoodReviewed by M. E Hennessy, 2010-01-08
I just finished the game just to see what happends when you get to
the end. But I was so frustrated with the poor excuse of a seek
game that I was ready to throw it in the dump quite a few times. As
others have said this had a great set up and the background sound
effects that really did make it creepy and fun. The big problem I
had was that as the game progressed the game makers basically used
a lot of brown and had the objects brown or black. Good seek games
such as the Mystery Quest series makes the searches harder by
blending items in with a lot of other items. This game just hid
things by making them the same color as the background. Then after
finding all the items you get a bag of broken headstone parts that
you have to piece together on a tombstone to restore the info of
the person buried there, and to find out how they died. This was ok
until you got closer to the end of the game. I can't really
complain too much about this because they just made it more
challenging. But you end up turning the stones around and around
trying to find where they fit, but often they don't fit anywhere
until other stone get placed and that is just frustrating because
you end up spending a lot of time on the last three of these just
trying to figure what fits where.
Like I said...They started with a good foremat, but then went low
brow and in my opinion made the game boring as others have said. My
problem was that I didn't play it very long on the trial version
before I bought it. I was impressed with the first few sections and
just bought it. If I played the whole trial time I might have
un-installed it. Apparently they have another game in the works to
make this a series. I'll check it out on trial when it comes out.
Hopefully they'll make an effort to make the next one a better game
while keeping the creep factor really high.
Wonderful game!Reviewed by Nick S. Sharrer, 2009-12-31
I was really impressed with how this game came together. First of all, I love Bodie and everything having to do with the old west, especially California. The graphics were quite a bit more than I expected from a download game, and the whole plot was fascinating and very entertaining. The puzzles were great fun. My wife even joined in to solve the puzzles with me and she loved it . . . she normally doesn't like games so that's saying a lot for the quality of this one. Definitely a bargain for 6.99!
Its OKReviewed by Roxie, 2009-12-12
This game is just OK. I found the game pretty easy and very repetitive.
